“There is still a lot of decent people in Ireland”.
The words of 2FM broadcaster Hector Ó hEochagáin this morning as he shared on Twitter a letter that had been sent in for his attention to national radio station 2FM.
A listener to Hector’s popular breakfast show was, like the rest of the nation, deeply saddened to hear the news last week that jockey JT McNamara had been left paralysed after a devastating fall at Cheltenham.
Deciding to take whatever small action they could, the listener penned the letter above to Hector and enclosed the sum of €100. It reads;
Dear Hector,
I was very sadened to hear the news about JT Mc Namara on the news today (sat). Im not sure if there will be a fund set up but felt the urge to give something. I am sending a donation of €100 - to you because you will probably know where to send it. Sorry it not much but I am unemployed and just about to meet-ing my mortgage. The only other thing I can do is say an odd prayer for Andrew and his family.
Yours Sincerely,
J.M.
