Stella McCartney lost her own mum, Linda, to breast cancer in 1998 so the project is close to her heart.
Adidas by Stella McCartney has launched a post-mastectomy sports bra which is the first of its kind for the brand. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month and many companies and brands are doing their bit to support it.
However, as the designer lost her own mum to breast cancer, she wanted to make sure what she designed was the perfect fit. Stella teamed up with a lingerie stylist, Monica Harrington, to create the new sports bra, making sure every detail was perfect.
Monica is London-based and runs workshops on post-surgery body confidence as a part of Breast Cancer Care’s Moving Forward programme.
The unique sports bra has been designed to avoid the scarring areas post-surgery and has hidden pockets sewn inside for prostheses. It also a zip front to make putting it on more manageable.
The campaign for the sports bra was an empowering one and starred British boxer and breast cancer survivor, Michele Aboro.
