Gillen, who is probably best known for his role as John Boy in Love/Hate, will play the former leader in a three-part 90 minute drama which is costing RTE about 3.7 million.
According to the paper, a source claimed that Gillen's screen test for the role was absolutely "chilling".

"The hair and make-up was perfect to make Aidan look like Charlie Haughey in the 60s," said a film source."
"RTE require an exceptional actor to play Haughey but also someone who would be known in both the UK and America."
The airing date of the show has not yet been announced, but this will certainly be an exciting project.
