An airport security guard who took the opportunity to pose for a photo with his favourite Girls Aloud member has been fired.
City of Derry Airport security guard Alex Duffy couldn’t believe his luck when he spotted Nadine Coyle coming towards him in the security area. He jokingly asked her was she Victoria Beckham before he had his snap taken with the singer.
He was in his element.
Until the 31-year-old was brought to a disciplinary meeting after he posted the photo to his Facebook account.
In a dismissal statement, the management said: “The photograph... clearly showed you wearing your City of Derry Airport uniform and clearly showed that you were in the Security Search area", the Irish Sun reports.
The statement also said that Mr Duffy had been given a “written warning” previously for posting a comment about a colleague on Facebook.
Mr Duffy said: “The whole thing was blown out of proportion. I asked Nadine, ‘Are you Victoria Beckham?’ She told me she’d heard it before and posed for the picture.
“I actually wrote Nadine is a great ambassador for the city.”
Mr Duffy has taken his case to the North’s Labour Relations Agency
