Julia Charlene Merfeld went and hired a hitman because she wanted to have her husband killed. Why? Because “it was easier than divorcing him” she says.
Little did she know that her “hitman” was actually an undercover detective and she was being filmed on a secret video recorder all along.
The 21 year old met with the hitman twice in April of this year. In one of the videos she says that she and her husband were getting along but she wanted to make a “clean getaway” and hiring a him was easier than filing for divorce.
She then promised to pay the fake hitman in installments of $9000 to avoid suspicion. She was arrested soon after the second meeting.
The Michigan woman pleaded guilty to solicitation to murder last June. According to the police she looked like she was after her spouse’s $400,000 life insurance.
Her husband asked that she get no jail time at the time of her guilty plea but instead the judge said he’d cap her minimum sentence to six years.
Her sentencing date is scheduled for July 30th but she could still be sentenced to life in prison.
Below, the two recently released videos where Merfeld meets the fake hitman.
