An undercover report revealed some terrible news about hotel bedsheets

Oh grim.

Cassie Delaney

Checking into a hotel is a rare luxury.

It’s a chance to really relax, maybe have a tipple and a nice meal and wander around in fancy slippers and a bathrobe.

It’s to be expected that you’ll be spoilt and have the best night sleep in complete comfort. Turns out, that’s rarely the case as Inside Edition recently discovered.

Reporters visited multiple hotels in Manhattan and using a special UV paint, sprayed the sheets with a message reading “I Slept Here.”

The paint could only be detected under UV light and to the naked eye, everything seemed in order.

The reporters then returned, booking the same room under a different name. Though the room should have been prepared for a new guest, using the UV light they were able to determine that the sheets had not been washed or even changed.

The hotels were The Candlewood Inn & Suites, which is owned by the InterContinental hotel group, La Quinta Inn & Suites near Central Park, and Marriott Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Times Square.

At the Marriott Residence Inn the reporters found that neither the sheets nor the pillow cases had been changed.

“This is absolutely disgusting,” said presenter Ann Mercogliano. “The next time you stay at a hotel, you might want to bring your own sheets.”

According to the programme, the hotels apologized.

“The Marriott Corporation apologised and all of the hotels told us they take great pride in the high standards of cleanliness throughout their hotels, and that they take this issue very seriously, saying that they have taken immediate action to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

The manager of The Candlewood Inn & Suites said it is policy that the sheets be changed every day and denied knowledge that this would be a common practice.

The manager at La Quinta Inn & Suites said the housekeepers are expected to change the sheets and the failure to do so is unacceptable.
