The research, published in the Journal of Research in Personality, also found first borns in the family to be more outgoing, agreeable and conscientious.
As well as the personality traits, it is suggested that older siblings are less likely to experience anxiety than their younger siblings.
The study is the biggest in history looking at birth order and personality in families.
