Australian journalist has the BEST reason for supporting same-sex marriage

To the point.

She didn’t beat around the bush.

Right now, Australia is in the middle of a nationwide postal vote to see if citizens support same-sex marriage.

Unlike Ireland’s marriage referendum, the result of this vote is not legally binding.

Like Ireland’s marriage referendum, the vote has led to extreme and passionate debate on both sides.

And although voting whether a sizable number of the population should be allowed to marry or not based on each individual’s personal beliefs is less than ideal, that seems to be the situation that we constantly find ourselves in so I guess we just have to go with it.

One Australian journalist, Jill Poulsen, is voting yes (in support of same-sex marriage) during this postal vote.

But she doesn’t think that she owes anyone a lengthy explanation as to why.

In her regular column for NT News, Poulsen decided to leave a lot of white space and just get to the heart of the matter.

She wrote:

“Voting papers have started to drop through Territory mailboxes for the marriage equality postal vote and I wanted to share with you a list of why I’ll be voting yes.

1. I’m not an arsehole.”

There was no number two. There was no number three. That was it.

That, a nice headshot, a byline, and a stock image were all that appeared on the page.

The tweet of Poulsen’s column was retweeted over 2,000 times and liked almost 4,500 times.

Many Twitter users applauded Poulsen’s honesty in what appears to be becoming an increasingly brutal world.

However, one guy did hope that Poulsen wasn’t getting paid by the word, which is a fair concern to have.

Australia’s marriage equality postal vote results will be released in November.

The result may not be legally binding, but it has been suggested that a strong turn-out of yes voters should be enough to encourage the government to take a vote in parliament.
