He may have been cutting it a bit close.

But it looks like Jabba the two-toed sloth has a new lady in his life – and just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The Beardsley Zoo in Connecticut revealed in a Facebook post that the slowpoke is now courting a fellow two-toed sloth named Hope, who recently arrived at the zoo.

However, the pair aren’t rushing into any romance just yet.

Before they spend their days hanging from trees, taking naps and discussing the possibility of sloth-les and sloth-lettes (or whatever it is that sloths do), the zookeepers are making sure Hope and Jabba are compatible.

After allowing Hope a chance to get used to her new home, she’s been moved into the space beside Jabba’s enclosure at the Animal Health Care Center.

The zoo said on Facebook:

“Love is in the air! The Zoo is now home to Hope, our new Two-Toed Sloth, a female friend for Jabba, pictured here.

“Jabba and Hope are currently getting to know each other by occupying space side by side in the Animal Health Care Center.

“Both are Two-Toed sloths (Choloepus didactylus), a species found in Central and South America.

“Also NOT on exhibit yet, but we couldn’t wait to tell you! It’s going to be a fabulous Spring at the Zoo!”
