She’s had her own prime-time television show, a film, a few dodgy remakes but she’s back… well at least she will be if DreamWorks Animation has it’s way.
Last year DreamWorks Animation, who are the creators behind Shrek and Kung Fu Panda paid $155 million to purchase the Classic Media library titles, which includes Frosty the Snowman, George of the Jungle and Lassie.
It seems Hollywood may be addicted to remaking action movies with hunky male lead superheroes, but this longhaired beauty has a different appeal.
DreamWorks plan to put this collie back in the public eye, “She’s heroic, she’s loyal, she really is man’s best friend,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation’s chief executive. “She’s the single most recognised pet in the world.”

Lassie will celebrate it's 75th anniversary in December.
DreamWorks global brand chief Michael Francis has said there is no Lassie TV series or movie in the works just yet, instead the studio is developing a multimedia marketing plan to reintroduce the dog. Lassie will make appearances at events as well as do promotions through social media, she already has her own Facebook page.
DreamWorks may also introduce Lassie-branded pet food, toys and accessories, generating additional licensing revenue for the studio, he added.
