We all know the ‘Be Like Bill’ meme.
Then our friends all adopted their own characters and suddenly our entire Facebook feed was a series of stick figures telling us the virtues of our friends.
Now there’s one stick figure you might not have met yet – Dissident Dan.
Taking on the latest social media trend, the PSNI have decided to use the Bill influence in reverse.
According to the
BBC, the Northern Irish police service decided to adopt the trend to warn people about Dissident Dan – or supporting his actions.
Following a security alert at a railway line in Lurgan, and a serious disorder when more than 100 petrol bombs were thrown at police at Lake Street, the police in Craigavon decided to try and connect with people using the latest social media trend.
In their post, they wrote:
"This is dissident Dan. Dissident Dan has an irrational hatred of trains. Dissident Dan also hates the people of Lurgan going about their day to day lives in peace.
"Dissident Dan lives in the past, and puts things on the train tracks in order to stop the trains, and his own community. Don't be like Dan."
The PSNI also took the opportunity to thank the local community for their help and patience during the events:
"Thank you for your kind words as we went door to door, and for the 99.9% of you who didn't come out throwing stuff at us or shooting at us as we tried to keep you safe.
"The alert is now over and the roads are open. Trains will get back to normal over the coming hours.”
