A bigamist was caught out when his first wife saw photos from his second wedding published to Facebook.
Andrew McLeod-Baikie was still married to wife Susan, who is also mother to his four children, when she was alerted by a friend that images showing him marrying at a second wedding emerged online.
According to
The Telegraph, Susan then rang police to tell them she was still legally his wife.
Addressing the court, Prosecutor Sian Vaughan said:
"The first wife was informed by a friend that she had seen pictures of the wedding of the defendant and another female.
"He informed her he had divorced her online two years previously."
The court heard how McLeod-Baikie had paid £600 to get an online divorce from Susan in 2011. What he didn’t realise was that a decree absolute had not been granted – so his divorce wasn’t finalised at the time of his second wedding.
McLeod-Baikie pleaded guilty to bigamy, and will now pay the court a £400 fine and £400 in costs.
McLeod-Baikie’s defence Mr. Layton confirmed his client and his new wife now plan to dissolve their union and get married again soon in a low-key ceremony.
His first wife Susan told papers:
"There are a lot of unanswered questions on his part and there are many things I would like to say.
"But I have to think of our children. They are very aware of what has gone on and I must think of their welfare. The whole situation is a bit ridiculous.
"Anyone in their right mind would get their hands on the decree absolute before you get married again."
