You can’t escape your past… we knew it already, but now Twitter is putting its own stamp on our social networking history.
From today, you can download your Twitter archive, a collection of happy, sad, argumentative, embarrassing, drunk or cliché tweets that were stored somewhere on the cloud for the last few years.
Twitter published a blog today explaining the process and why it can make your Twitter experience even better.
You will be able to download all the tweets you have ever tweeted, including retweets, going right back to the beginning. Once you have your archive, you can view the tweets by month or search your archive to find tweets with certain words, phrases, hashtags and usernames.
You can even engage with your old tweets just as you would with new ones. But do we want that?
The blog reads:
It’s no secret: You make Twitter what it is. And if you tweet, you may have found yourself wanting to go back in time and explore your past Tweets. Maybe you wanted to recall your reaction to the 2008 election, reminisce on what you said to your partner on your 10th anniversary, or just see your first few Tweets. We know lots of you would like to explore your Twitter past.
If you want to go have a creep on the old Twitter you, the instructions are simple.
Go to Settings and scroll to the bottom to check for the option to request your Twitter archive. If you see it, click the button and you’ll receive an email on how to download your old tweets.
If the option isn’t there, the feature just hasn’t made its way to you yet.
Twitter are rolling out the feature slowly, starting today with a small percentage of users whose language is set to English.
If you’re ready to share the cringeworthy, old-you tweets with the Twitterati world, people are using the hashtag #TwitterArchive .
