“I get bloated and it happens when I eat certain foods”.
You may have noticed that your stomach takes on a bloated appearance after eating certain foods and one bodybuilder has shared an Instagram post detailing her experience.
Michelle Madison is a bodybuilder with a large social media following and she has explained what foods cause her to bloat alongside images taken before and after.
The fitness expert who’s an avid YouTuber explains that this bloat is temporary and she mentions that people get surprised when they hear she gets bloated.
As Michelle is trying to show, bloating can happen to anyone and often, it’s to do with the type of food you’ve eaten.
For Michelle, the foods that trigger bloating are “yogurts, protein powders, apples, pears, watermelon, broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus”.
However, as she notes, the bloating only lasts a few hours and again, it’s important to remember that this a common occurrence as your body digests food.
The Insta-famous fitness guru also mentions the FODMAP diet and foods described as high FODMAP can sometimes contribute to bloating.
Although Michelle appears to follow a low FODMAP diet where possible, which involves cutting out certain types of carbohydrates, sometimes she allows herself foods of a high FODMAP measurement which explains why she suffers from bloating.
Drinking more water and upping your intake of fibre-rich foods can help reduce bloating but again if it does occur, it’s usually only temporary. However, if it’s ongoing and something you’re concerned about, it’s always worth discussing with your GP.
