Buckingham Palace is hiring a full-time chef and the salary is fairly shocking

Oh.

Jade Hayden

Wow, okay.

The royal family have been pretty much everywhere as of late.

With Harry and Meghan announcing their engagement, Harry and Meghan doing their first interview together, and Harry and Meghan releasing their engagement photos, there’s been more than enough royal news to keep us all entertained.

So that’s why when we heard that Buckingham Palace was hiring a new chef we all went ahead and assumed that it sounded like a pretty decent gig.

And it does.

According to the ad posted by the Palace, the new Demi Chef de Partie will “prepare classical and contemporary menus for a wide range of events, learning essential skills that will provide stepping stones for a great career.”

“Every day will be different. You’ll prepare receptions and state dinners, as well as staff lunches.

And whether you’re based at Buckingham Palace or, when required, travelling to another Royal residence, you’ll look forward to whatever challenge comes your way.”

Sounds decent enough.

The role is permanent, full time, five days a week, and includes a pension scheme.

However, the starting wage is just £20,604.52.

And, to add to this, the role offers live-in accommodation but the chef will need to take a salary adjustment to avail of it.

(Similarly, the Palace is also advertising a hospitality role for £16,955.45.)

The ad states that the role will offer “opportunities” for future employment and the ability to “learn and progress.”

Free meals will also be provided too.

So, if you happen to live in the UK and fancy yourself a Queen’s chef you can apply here.
