You can buy a gorgeous little holiday home in Italy for €1 and we’re already on a plane

The actual dream.

Imagine owning a little holiday home in Italy and jetting away whenever it takes your fancy? The sun, the wine, the food…

Well, if you can’t afford to buy a holiday home but really want one, this could be your chance because a town in Southern Sicily is selling homes for only €1.

Of course, you’re not going to get a holiday home for that little without a catch.

The houses are pretty run down, and the town’s aim is to up the population, so they want you to renovate the house when you buy it.

According to Mail Online, here are 500 properties that need a little sprucing and there’s a clause that the local government in Mussomeli have in the contract of the house.

If you buy one, you have to fully renovate it in three years or you’ll lose a €5,000 deposit. Restoring the homes has been valued at about €100 per square foot, but that excludes admin costs which will be around €2,500 to €4,000.

Local engineers and architects are on hand for anyone that needs helping restoring the homes, however you can also employ outside designers and decorators to do the job.

Mussomeli, which is around two hours south east of Palermo, has a medieval castle as well as numerous ancient churches, so the views are pretty sweet.

To be honest, apart from the risk of loosing five grand, it’s a pretty sweet deal, and just imagine when the property is all done up and you can drink wine and eat pasta from a little balcony. Bliss.
