This is where you can learn how to bake your own unicorn cake

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Call it a panacea to all the weirdness in the world right now, but unicorn-inspired baked goods and cheat-day treats are having a moment. And we’ll say this: we’re not mad at them.

If you want to take things to the next level after trying a unicorn latte, a new all-day event about to take place in Dublin could be a Sunday well spent.

Decobake Dublin are holding a beginners and improvers Unicorn Cake Class next week (February 5th) at their Bachelor’s Walk sugar emporium Sweet Republic.

Participants will learn how to layer, crumb coat and cover a tall, real cake in Ice Wise Sugar Paste. They’ll also learn basic modelling, how to pipe with buttercream, how to make swirls and flowers, and basic painting.

You need to be serious about your baking to book (it’s €120), but the fee includes all the materials you’ll need to make your cake and achieve the perfect design as well as a lovely lunch.

Plus, once you’ve got the basic skills down, there’s nothing to stop you knocking out a brand new unicorn cake at home every weekend.

It doesn’t get much more magical than that.
