You can now buy an Alexa-compatible Christmas tree, welcome to peak millennial notions

Cathy Donohue

An Alexa-compatible Christmas tree exists.

Yes, you can now buy a Christmas tree that will talk to you on command because there are lots of situations where you might require that…NOT.

The Mr. Christmas 7-foot Douglas fir has just arrived on Amazon and is priced at $299.99, which works out to a cool €270, or thereabouts.

So what does the very pricey tree involve?

The ability to schedule your Christmas tree lights, numerous voice capabilities, 13 light options with various colours and a “sturdy metal stand” – we imagine the last part is key for most trees, to be fair.

Designed to look like real-life foliage, “the 1, 750 flame retardant branch tips are easily arranged to create the natural appearance of a full-bodied, genuine Christmas tree”.

According to the official description, it’s easy to set up with a “built-in power pole” and of course, it can be easily paired with Alexa.

To be honest, we’ll stick to the magic of a real tree but no doubt there’s a market for a gimmick of this kind among Alexa’s many fans.

The fact that it’s Alexa-activated means you no longer need to worry about a remote, not that we have ever possessed a Christmas tree with a remote.

Released on November 15, Mr. Christmas tree is available for pre-order now and we’ll be interested to see what sales are like.

It’s fair to say Mr.Christmas, aka the first Alexa-compatible Christmas tree, is what you might call peak millennial notions.
