This week: The Paleo Diet Made Easy:Simple Ingredients – No Junk, No Starving

Unless you’re living under a rock, any fitness or food fanatic is bound to have heard about the Paleo diet.

For people who are new to the concept, it’s pretty simple. The plan is designed for you to stick to the foods you would find in their whole, natural forms. Skip the low-fat or pre-processed foods and opt for a diet of meat (organic and grass-fed where possible) and stock up on fish, vegetables, fruit and roots.

The Paleo Diet Made Easy is a concise book that features recipes across breakfast, lunch and dinner while focussing on key areas of preparation for meats, fish, vegetarian friendly recipes or snacks and sweet treats.

Written by Joy Skipper, a qualified nutritional therapist, the silled writer uses her experience writing about healthy food for BBC, Delicious Magazine and Weight Watchers Magazine, to create a catalogue of accessible food solutions when attempting this diet.

The book starts with an introduction to the diet and meal plan, assessing the pros and cons of eating in this diet style for different body types as well as addressing some ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ that may have you pondering the plan before you kick it all off.

The recipes are written in easy-to-follow, no-frills guidelines and are whipped up using recipes you should find easily enough when shopping in any reasonably stocked supermarket. There won’t be a stop off to twenty different specialist shops along the way.

There are no images (which for a novice cook can often be the guideline between knowing when the meal is prepared or needs another 10 minutes in the oven), but if you know your way around the kitchen and are looking to experiment in a new cooking style, this is the book for you.

The simple-straight forward approach, with some facts and handy hints for the reader makes this book a handy one for the kitchen cupboard. While you might not decide to keep-up the Paleo takeover, you’re bound to find some fool-proof formulas for a tasty meal based on good food principles.
