Fiona Carolan received a phone call from an unknown number over the weekend.

On the other end of the line was a man she had never met before saying that he was standing with her dad outside EMC in Cork.

Fiona wrote in a post on Facebook that her dad has dementia, and that being in a strange place in Cork city must have been “upsetting for him.”

She left to go collect her dad, and upon arrival realised that the man who was waiting with him was a Bus Eireann driver named Gabor.

He waited with Fiona’s dad until she arrived – “possibly even delaying his route.”

“I want to sincerely thank the man, Gabor, driver of the 220 route for his patience with my dad.

He knew when talking to my dad that something wasn’t right and he found his identity key ring which has family contact details on it and took the time to ring us.

Thank you Gabor.

Bus Eireann you should be very proud to have such compassionate staff.”

Fiona’s post has since received over 55,000 likes on Facebook and almost 2,000 comments.

It has been shared over 3,000 times, with users commended Gabor for his generosity and compassion.

“Gabor knows what matters in life,” said one person.

“Fantastic act of kindness,” said another.

It wasn’t long before Gabor himself came across the post and took it upon himself to share a short reply.

“I hope your dad is okay.

Don’t worry, I’ll remember his face from now on and he’ll be looked after us.

Talk soon.”

Bus Eireann even responded to Fiona’s post, saying that they were delighted to hear that her dad made it home safe.

They also thanked her for sharing their driver’s “act of kindness” with them.

“Well done to Gabor for realising your Dad required assistance and for his prompt action in contacting you,” they wrote.
