A woman has told a court in Boulder, Colorado how she was attacked and had her foetus ‘removed’ from her womb and killed, according to the Washington Post.
Michelle Wilkins spoke about how she was seven months pregnant when she went to her alleged attacker Dynel Lane’s home, after seeing an ad on Craigslist offering free maternity clothes.
Wilkins told the court how the meeting went from normal to strange pretty quickly – with Lane asking Michelle if she could see a spider on her shoulder.
Wilkins then said she was wrestled to the ground, before Lane attempted to smother her with a pillow and choke her with her bare hands.
It was when a bottle was smashed over her head that Wilkins lost consciousness.
Addressing the court, Wilkins said she noticed she noticed she had been slashed from hip to hip when she woke up:
"I just felt the blood seeping through my pants and I could feel my intestines outside of my body."
It was only the next day in the hospital that Wilkins learned her child had been killed during the attack.
Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett told the courtroom Lane had just had a fake pregnancy at the time of the attack:
"She was obsessed with pregnancy, in a bizarre way."
Lane allegedly told her boyfriend who found the foetus in their home that she had a miscarriage, which she later repeated to doctors during an examination.
Dynel Lane is now facing a charge of attempted first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty.
