Dating apps like Tinder have been blamed for the rise of this STI

The experts have spoken.

Dating apps like Tinder have been blamed for the rise in STIs like gonorrhoea.

Apparently, the app allows people to engage in a “meals on wheels” type of sex, which in turn, has led to an increase of the sexually transmitted infection.

At least that’s according to sexual health campaigner Dr Wendell Rosevear, who has claimed that people “don’t want safe sex” anymore.

Speaking to Australian news site, news.com.au, he said:

“In the past, people might go out and have a conversation or a drink in the club and then go home but now people would perhaps want what I call meals on wheels, home delivery where you maybe seek sex within five minutes.

“If it’s not available within five minutes many people don’t want it and many people specifically don’t want safe sex.

“So we’re getting some new dynamics happening with some people having between one and up to 10 partners a day.”

gonnorhoea

Now, I don’t know about you, but I didn’t think it was humanly possible for somebody to seek out 10 different people on Tinder and subsequently have sex with them all.

Especially not in one day.

But hey, maybe things are different in Australia.

In the past five years, the country has experienced a 63 percent increase in cases of gonorrhoea, with the highest rates occurring in people in their 20s.

Condom

There has been a similar increase in the STI in Ireland too, with reports suggesting a 50 percent rise since last year alone.

Nearly three-quarters of all STIs recorded in this country were among people under the age of 30.

There’s no doubt that safe-sex is a topic that deserves far more of our attention.

… But instead of blaming dating apps like Tinder, maybe it would be best to educate people about the importance of condoms and getting checked regularly.
