Once the flight is booked and you’ve planned a place to rest your head at night, it’s time to start looking forward to the fun stuff on your holiday!
We’ve paired up with travel experts Thomas Cook to give you a weekly heads up on one popular travel destination and how much dining, drinking and dancing there will set you back. This week it’s Crete…

Dining:
The traditional Greek tavernas are not to be missed if you’re heading to this holiday hotspot. Snacks are readily available and easy on the pocket; expect to pay about €2.80 for a sandwich, less than €2 for some fries or €2-€3 for a kebab. Going local, a Greek salad will cost you about €4. A three course meal in one of the island’s restaurants is likely to set you back about €20.
Drinking:
In Crete’s plentiful bars and clubs a bottle of beer goes for about €3, while a tasty cocktail will cost you a fiver or less. A glass of wine will set you back about €1.50, while buying a bottle in a restaurant will cost about €10.
Dancing:
Malia and Hersonissos are the main hubs for club-lovers on this party island. Malia is a huge 18-30s resort with a hopping main strip playing RnB, chart and house tunes and is a seven-nights-a-week party hotspot. Hersonissos is very popular with Irish visitors also, somewhat smaller but just as party-filled, and attracts some high-profile DJs in the summer season.
