Missing flight MH370 is back in the spotlight after Indian film director Rupesh Paul revealed he is making a film about the missing Malaysian plane.
During the Cannes Film Fesitval, the director told the
Hollywood Reporter that the film
Vanishing Act "will not affect any passengers' families, and will not exploit the ongoing search."
Speaking at the festival, he justified his decision to make the film saying:
"Our movie is a thriller. It will not be based on stupid things. There will not be a [gun] and there will not be any aliens. The controversy will help indirectly, but we are not cashing in on the flight."
The teaser trailer has caused criticism online, with users believing Rupesh Paul is benefiting from people’s grief.
Paul outlined changes to the plot, including that a Boeing 747 was used in the trailer as opposed to the Boeing 777, which went missing. He also noted that the movie is apparently based on the theories of a Malaysian journalist.
A shorter trailer was recently presented at the Cannes Film Festival with shooting expected to take place over 35 days, involving about 200 actors.
