The line-up for this year’s Dublin Dance Festival has been revealed, with an exciting line-up of classic and contemporary dance.

A host of Irish and international dancers will perform at the 12-day festival, which takes place from May 19th to 30th, with director Julia Carruthers saying that she hopes that the programme “captures the ‘right now’ of international and Irish dance”.

“This year, our national theatre amplifies the importance of dance with an ambitious programme of three dance performances on the Abbey stage, including leading work from Europe, cutting-edge contemporary flamenco and a major Irish premiere,” she said.

Highlights of this year’s programme include the Liz Roche Company presenting the first ever commission from an Irish choreographer for the main stage at the Abbey Theatre, a performance from flamenco superstar Israel Galván, a showcase of contemporary dance from Meg Stuart and WillFredd Theatre’s world premiere of Jockey starring Emma O’Kane, in a dance theatre exploration of the horse racing world.

Canadian choreographer Sylvain Emard will also bring three dancers and a veteran 81-year-old actress to the Project Arts Centre in a collection of exquisite dances, while Swiss dancer and choreographer Thomas Hauert will perform a brand new solo in response to Monteverdi’s Si Dolce e’l tormento.

Other notable performers include German performance artist Eva Meyer Keller, an exciting collaboration with Goethe-Institut Irland, 80 young performers from Dublin Youth Dance Company in an outdoor dance celebration in Grand Canal Dock and magical family season at The Ark demonstrating that ‘never work with animals or children’ doesn’t always apply to choreographers.
