According to the family, the young girl has been very traumatised by the entire event. Speaking to the press, her 18-year-old sister confirmed: "She is very traumatised and very confused as well."
The family have always insisted that the child is theirs and were upset by the accusations.
The girl had been placed in care while they awaited the results of the tests.
Gardai had interviewed the family members and requested documentation as proof that the girl was their daughter. They were not satisfied with the interview and documentation and informed the family that they needed to take the girl for tests.
There are no further reports as to whether the girl has now been returned to her family or not.
