So, elections are coming up once again. They seem to fly around, don’t they? Despite our best efforts, and thinking, “I really must register for the next one”, it’s all too easy to forget to stick your name down on the voters’ register.
The elections are taking place on May 23
rd and to be eligible to vote you
must register by May 6
th. That gives you just one month to see if you’re on the register and get your name down. Sounds like a lot of time but; be realistic, after the last election (2011) you probably told yourself you had a lot of time. Three years later, you’ve only a month left. Time to take action!
This year’s elections are pretty important – the local and the European elections. Basically, we’ll be electing people to represent us in our villages, towns and counties; as well as representing all of Ireland in Europe. Certainly not a decision we’ll want to undertake lightly!
If you’re feeling lazy and thinking “Oh, I’ll do it next time” don’t complain in a few months about the state of affairs in your local community or at a EU level – this is your chance to have your say. If you vote and things go a bit haywire then, by all means, complain til your heart’s content!
