Before when a couple didn’t want you at their wedding, they simply made up an excuse such as ‘we can’t afford a big wedding’ or ‘it’s strictly family only.’ Now, however, the latest trend is for them to send you out a ‘you’re not invited’ card. Nice, right?
According to the Today Show, ‘you’re not invited’ cards are the latest trend for couples who actually want to tell people that they haven’t made the cut for the final wedding guest list.
“Nine out of ten times, it’s because of a lack of space – and the couple feels super guilty,” said Tatiana Byron, the founder of The Wedding Salon.
“These are usually people they’re friendly with but not close to,” she added.
But wait, it gets worse!
In some cases, people don’t receive a ‘you’re not invited’ message but a ‘B List’ invite instead. If you’re lucky enough to receive a ‘B List’ invite, it means that you haven’t made the initial cut but if someone else can’t go, you’re on the waiting list.
The harsh cards are used to avoid any awkwardness (yes, seriously)
Apparently the purpose of these popular new invites is “to avoid awkwardness and hurt feelings as soon as you send out your save-the-dates.”
Now, call us crazy but we imagine these invites would have the opposite effect and actually make things even more awkward and painful than they have to be.
While some argue that these invites are nothing but the epitome of self-importance and arrogance, the worrying thing is that they’re rapidly gaining popularity in the States and other parts of the world.
We don’t know about you but if we didn’t make the cut for the final wedding guest list of a good friend, that person probably wouldn’t make the cut in our final BFF list.
Sending out a special card to draw attention to the fact that you haven’t been invited is just poor taste and incredibly mean. What do you think?
