Downton Abbey returned to our screens last Sunday and once again captivated millions of viewers as the drama continued to unfold between the walls of the glorious house.
While the main focus may have been on the long anticipated wedding of Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley, we couldn’t help but notice Lady Edith’s continued fascination with one Sir Anthony, a man who is at least twice her age.
However, former Cold Feet star Robert Bathurst said Edith’s infatuation with his character is a little bit unbelievable because of the age difference between the pair.

Downton Abbey's Lady Edith has been pursuing Sir Anthony who is much older than her
According to The Daily Mail, Robert said: “I was initially surprised at their romance because of the difference in their ages,” he said.
“It seems implausible to me. But all you have to do is go to various drinking dens in London’s Soho and you see an awful lot of very old people with really rather young people.
“So, in certain circles it’s not particularly odd. And he is a widower who is on the lookout, while Edith is very put upon by her family.”
The actor said the success of Downton has surprised him and he is recognised around the world.

Robert found huge success on the back of Cold Feet
He revealed that people have been quizzing him about whether or not the onscreen couple will tie the knot, despite Edith’s father Lord Grantham’s disapproval.
“Even when I was in South Africa, people were asking me about it.”
“It seems like a lot of people want them to get married,” he said.
However, Robert revealed that the cast of the hit ITV show was required to sign documents preventing them from speaking about the upcoming plot.

“We signed a document, which is like the Official Secrets Act, and it threatened all sorts of dire consequences,” he joked.
Her.ie can’t wait for our fix of period drama on Sunday night, but we really hope Edith doesn’t pursue Sir Anthony. In the meantime, our eyes will be glued to the telly as we continue to be a fly on the walls of Downton.
