Dropped Your Phone In Water? Here’s What Science Says You Should Do

You need to be very careful.

If your phone has ever had a water-related accident (we know we’re not alone in this), you might be interested in the below fact.

Now, we have been known to use the old bag of rice trick and have even put the phone in the hot press in the vain hope that it might ‘dry out’, but science has another solution to the problem.

Science magazine BBC Focus says that while the rice trick can have the desired effect, using pure alcohol may be a better choice.

However, we must stress that you need to be VERY careful as alcohol is highly flammable.

BBC Focus says: “Rice will draw out the moisture, but that doesn’t necessarily mean your phone will work properly afterwards.

“The water may already have fused the phone’s circuits or left behind traces of minerals that corrode the electronics. Also, rice may get stuck in the headphone socket.

“Soaking the phone in pure alcohol may be a better bet. The alcohol drives water out and removes any mineral deposits. But pure alcohol is highly flammable and must be treated with the utmost care”.
