Dublin Rents Rise By Almost 10% As Prices Continue To Increase Nationwide

Dublin has seen the highest rise in rent in recent times according to the findings of a national rental survey this week.

Nationwide, the average rise in rent was 5.8% in the last three months of 2014, according to the latest figures which were released by the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB).

The results show that Dublin rents were high above the national average, with an increase of 9.6% in the same time period.

The figures show that an apartment in Dublin cost €1,166 per month at the end of last year in comparison to €1,051 for the same period in 2013.

Dublin 2 was shown to be the most expensive area to rent in the capital followed by Dublin 4, while Dublin 11 and 15 had significant increases in rental prices.

Meanwhile in the rest of the country, house prices grew more than the price of aparments with the average cost of renting a house rising by 4.4% (to €667 per month) compared to a 2.9% rise for apartments (€612 per month).

Prices in Cork rose by 3.2% while in Galway, there was a rise of 3%.
