A Dublin woman has set up an online crowdfunding campaign in the hopes of raising money for a 64-year-old homeless man.

Clodagh Cahill and her sister Lynn met Rocky while distributing food, clothing and toiletries to those sleeping on the street in Dublin recently.

After chatting to the pensioner, it emerged that he had been forced to move out of his flat after the water stopped working and has been sleeping rough ever since.

Lynn decided to try and raise sponsorship in return for sleep rough for 48hrs, with the funds going towards a deposit and rent to help Rocky get back on his feet.

However, Claire could not get his plight off her mind and set up a Go Fund Me page to see if members of the public would be in a position to help.

“I tried going asleep Tuesday night and I just couldn’t stop thinking about this poor man who at his age should not be worrying about having no bed to sleep in. I went on to GoFundMe and set up the account and within 24hrs there was €310 raised,” she told Her.ie

“This man doesn’t even know we’re doing it but while I lay in my warm comfy bed watching my Netflix and enjoying my electric blanket and fridge full of food, my heart is absolutely breaking to think that a gentlemen of a man that could easily be my grandad has no home. All he needs is a break and I really really just want to help give him that. At the end of the day, we’re all only a paycheque or two away from being homeless.”

The Home For Rocky funding page is available here.
