If you’re planning on leaving the house this evening, make sure you have a copy of the RTÉ Guide with you. Why? Well, not only will it keep you up to date with all the telly-related goss, it can also be used to bate the head off anyone who tries to rob you, as this story illustrates.
BreakingNews.ie reports than elderly Irish woman is being praised for her bravery after a court heard that she attacked an armed robber with a copy of the RTÉ Guide last year.
The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court was told that during the raid of the Mace Shopping Centre in Clontarf back in October of last year, brave 85-year-old Dorothy Holmes used her trusty RTÉ Guide to hit an armed robber as he threatened a cashier.

Dorothy has been hailed as a local hero for her part in helping to foil the robbery
Dorothy had been in the shopping centre as a customer at the time of the robbery and came to the defence of the poor cashier.
Dorothy’s brave act was captured on CCTV stills that were shown to the judge, who imposed a three-year jail sentence on 27-year-old Edward Hutton, who pleaded guilty to the robbery.
