We love a happy ending to an otherwise heart-wrenching story and we’re pleased to report that this story ends on a positive note. A dog who was sent to an animal shelter to be euthanised because he might be ‘gay’ has been adopted by a loving new owner.
The Standard reports that an unnamed man in Florida sent his male pitbull/American bulldog mix to be put to sleep after he saw it “humping” another male dog.
We should note here that while animals can be gay, most dogs mount each other in order to express dominance or because of nerves. So chances are what the dog was doing was completely natural.
Anyway, a good samaritan set up a Facebook campaign to try and save the ‘gay’ dog who was effectively put on death row in the animal shelter.
A woman named Stephanie Fryns, who is affiliated with an animal rescue group known as Woof Connections, said that she was happy to adopt the dog as quickly as possible.

Elton was saved from Death Row in the nick of time
“I am adopting this big boy first thing in the morning,” wrote Ms Fryns on the Facebook page for the animal rescue group Save The Animals Together.
“He will be neutered/htwm tested/and vetted. He will be temperament tested and then placed in a rescue verified and approved home,” she added.
An employee at the animal shelter confirmed that the canine was adopted yesterday morning. He was due to be put to sleep at 1pm, so it looks as though Ms Fryns arrived at the perfect time.
Ms Frynes has nicknamed the dog Elton after the gay performer Elton John and promises that she’ll take really good care of him.
“[Elton] was pretty friendly so far,” said Ms Fryns, speaking to ABC News.
“He’s pretty scared of everything, which is understandable. But he loved the car ride,” she added.
Gay, straight or bisexual we have to say we’d love Elton no matter what his sexual orientation. We’re happy that he’s now going to a better home.
