The BBC were forced to apologise for a weather bulletin which advised festival-goers who are heading to Glastonbury to “prepare for rape”. The mistake appeared on a subtitle for the weather forecast which ran after the 10pm news.

According to the Daily Mail, the subtitle writers quickly changed the message after they spotted the mistake. The message read: “As we head into Thursday, people going to Glastonbury will want to prepare for rape because this rain is heading – prepare for rain because this rain is heading right for you.”

However, many managed to take screen grabs of the mistake and post it to various social media sites.

A BBC spokeswoman responded by saying: “We try to ensure our subtitling is as accurate as possible but there are occasions when mistakes inevitably occur.”

“On this occasion the result was this unfortunate typo which was corrected as soon as possible.”
