Evelyn Cusack encourages people to support Boru3peaks 2016

Laura Holland

With just over a week to go to the 5th Annual Boru 3 Peaks in Clare and Tipperary, Evelyn Cusack of RTE joins Clare TD Timmy Dooley and Event Ambassador, Sarah Hennessey.

Hundreds of hillwalkers and runners are expected to flock to the Lough Derg region from home and overseas to summit the three peaks surrounding the historic towns of Killaloe and Ballina on October 8th and 9th.

Over the two days, there will be organised walks, or runs if you prefer, to the top of three of the most beautiful hills in Ireland. On Saturday at 10am it will commence at Moylussa, Clare’s highest peak at 532m. Then on Saturday evening at 7pm they will move to Tountinna (457m), a wonderful night hike or run!

The now famous Inbetweeners Party is on the Saturday at the Anchor Inn in Killaloe and it gives a festival feel to the weekend with live music and refreshments.

On Sunday at 12noon, participants finish off with Keeper Hill, the highest point in North Tipperary at 694m.

This is the fifth year of this unique event and it has proven hugely popular with hill runners and walkers alike over the years. There is expected to be stiff competition again for the much-coveted titles of King and Queen of the Peaks, and the Elaine Fagan Perpetual Trophy.

Orla Foley, the founder of Boru Tri Club, said, “Boru3Peaks is targeted at walkers and runners of all abilities who are looking for a unique challenge while at the same time raising money for a worthy cause. We aim to give 100% of participants’ entry fees to the nominated charity again this year.”

Malachy Sheeran, the event Chairman, added, “Last year was a huge success due to the efforts of all the volunteers, runners and walkers, who appreciated the scenic views and the festive atmosphere.”

If you would like to participate in one or more of the peak events as an individual or with your family or team, please register online at boru3peaks.com, or call the Killaloe Ballina Family Resource Centre Reception office at 061-374741 to register.

The Registration Fee is €25 for one event, €40 for two, or €55 for all three (with concessions available for OAPs, Students and U-18’s,). All Funds raised this year will go to help the Killaloe Ballina Family Resource Centre in their continuing work in the community, and their move to a new location at the Old Molua Centre on The Green in Killaloe.
