Supermarket chain Tesco has today announced that it has stopped taking paid registrations to online weight loss service Tesco Diets, and consumers will now be directed to the recently launched Tesco Health & Wellbeing, which is free to join.

Reps for the company have stated that the move will have a “direct impact” on revenue, but insist that it is another step in a wider programme to help more customers improve their health and wellbeing.

Sinead Ragonesi-Browne, Managing Director at Tesco Health & Wellbeing, said “Customer response to Tesco Health & Wellbeing has been immensely positive, so we are incredibly excited to be offering this service to more people. Providing excellent service to our customers and helping them improve their health is our first priority and our move away from a paid subscription service is another example of this”.

The digital platform will be accessible through iOS and Android apps as well as a dedicated website, and will include healthy recipes, nutrition analysis tools and a food diary tracker.

The news comes just over a month after the chain announced plans to remove confectionary from all checkouts.
