Expert says this is the ideal length of time to wait before your first couples holiday

When you're in the early stages of a relationship it's natural that you want to spend all of your time together. Nights out, nights in are great for the first few weeks but inevitably the idea of a holidays starts to creep up. But how soon is too soon? Speaking to Mail Online, Judi James said  going away together early isn’t advised.

“In the early days of a relationship, it’s natural to look for similarities between two of you, particularly if we fall in love quite quickly. “We assume that person thinks like us, enjoys the same things and probably has the same normal daily routines and habits”.

However, this is often far from the truth and it’s only when you’re in each other’s company all the time, that the cracks can start to appear. Judi explains:

"It’s amazing how many people fall out from the moment they start travelling because the other person is spending too much time on the laptop, sleeping too late, drinking too much… all those things you never noticed until now, they are intensified because you feel trapped together". 'The mystery will go immediately if you’re in a hotel room with an ensuite and they can hear you go to the toilet, that intimacy is so much more comfortable a long way into a relationship".

Judi recommends starting slowly with a 'sleepover' at one of your homes and then maybe an overnight stay at a hotel. The mini-break or week-long holiday should wait until you’re at least six months down the road, in her opinion. "To be on the safe side, you should be looking at six months together before going on holiday, and even then it could be a disaster". It might sound like a long time to wait before travelling together, but to be fair, there’s a lot of sense in Judi’s words.
