So when relationship expert Esther Perel was asked for her top tips to maintaining a happy relationship, she was able to narrow down her lifetime experience to three top tips. Speaking to Business Insider, Perel revealed the three elements that will seal your lifelong deal: Stay interested and curious with one another Finishing each other’s sentences might sound romantic, but according to Perel, a couple that thrives remains curious in their partner’s lives. Whether it’s asking lots of questions, or searching for their opinion on a topic, assuming how your partner will react or anticipating their reply disconnects you from actually engaging with your other half. They are genuinely happy for their partner A partner who is genuinely happy for you will provide real support, be proud of your accomplishments and continue to show admiration for your achievements. Perel suggests you remember to be as supportive to your partner as you expect to be treated. Maintain your own life in your relationship Being in a couple shouldn’t mean losing out on your independence or individuality. According to Perel: “The happiest couples encourage their partner to forge and maintain an identity outside of the relationship – hobbies, passions, friendships and career pursuits that allow them to be the best, most fulfilled version of themselves. Rather than draining each other by not giving their partner the space and freedom to nurture a world of their own.”
