It’s a request we’re sure this young man never wanted to make.
Mikey Power, a friend and cousin of 17-year-old Dubliner Kaelem Hainsworth who died last Sunday, has asked the band Green Day to record a message for his cousin’s funeral.
Power posted the message, seen above, late yesterday evening, and it has since been shared widely across both Facebook and Twitter with many Irish people sending their support.
The heart-wrenching message points out that young Hainsworth will not live to see his 18th birthday in December, and calls on the American band to record a message for one of their biggest fans.
Hundreds of people, including well-known names like Dara O'Briain, Valerie Keating and Rosanna Davison, have spread the message on Twitter using the hashtag #makekaelemsdaygreen
A spokesman for Warner Music Ireland, who represent Greenday, told The Irish Times that a request has been sent from the organisation to the band.
