Another triumph for man’s best friend.
A three-year-old girl survived being lost in a Siberian forest for 11 days thanks to her beloved pooch.
Karina Chikitova followed after her father, who was travelling to a remote village several miles away from their home on July 29
th, unbeknownst to both her parents.
The discovery was made that the toddler was missing upon her Dad’s return four days later.
According to the
Siberian Times, the little girl survived by consuming wild berries, drinking river water and sleeping in patches on long grass.
The forest in the remote Sakha Republic that Karina had wandered into is known to be home to wolves and wild bears.
A rescue team began searching for the youngster. Workers became extremely disheartened when Karina’s puppy returned to the village days later without her.
A spokesperson for the Sakha Republic Rescue Service, Afanasiy Nikolayev, said: “Two days before we found Karina her puppy came back home.
“That was the moment when our hearts sank, because we thought at least with her dog Karina had chances to survive - night in Yakutia are cold and some areas have already gone into minus temperatures.
“If she was to hug her puppy, we thought, this would have given her a chance to stay warm during nights and survive.
“So when her dog came back we thought 'that's it' - even if she was alive - and chances were slim - now she would have definitely have lost all hopes. Our hearts truly and deeply sank”.
The heroic pup saved the day when it brought the rescue services to the little one’s location.
