A father was arrested for confiscating his 12-year old daughter’s iPhone.
Ronald Jackson took the phone from his daughter as a punishment for bad behaviour, but was later reported by the girl’s mother who accused him of theft.
A trial heard how the father took the phone from his pre-teen daughter after he found an inappropriate text message – but was found not guilty of theft after two days due to “insufficient evidence”.
According to The Telegraph, the girl’s mother rang police after the phone was confiscated, claiming she owns the phone that was taken by Jackson.
He was later arrested by police in Dallas on charges of theft.
Speaking to local media following the trial, Jackson said:
“I was being a parent. You know, a child does something wrong, you teach them what’s right. You tell them what they did wrong and you give them a punishment to show that they shouldn’t be doing that.
“I don’t want the police department telling me how to parent my child. It made no sense to me for them to show up and make a big deal out of something that was a small thing.
“I couldn’t believe they would go to this extent for a cell phone. It didn’t seem right.”
The mother Michelle Steppe defended her choice to report Jackson saying “the property belongs to me”.
