Animal mad Christmas shoppers are scraping the pennies together to get something nice for everybody’s stocking but it seems a pampered pooch ranks higher in our priorities than our Granny and Granddad.
A new survey has revealed that we will spend more than ever on gifts for our pets including splashing the cash on extravagant treats, toy and accessories leaving the rest of our family with scratch cards.
Speaking to The Sun, pet owner Nina Henley revealed why Granny won’t be trying on that new perfume.
“I will spend around €62 (£50) on a doggy grooming session so he looks gorgeous and smells lovely on Christmas Day.
“I’ll also trade in his normal dog food for some special meat from the butcher’s and his favourite pigs’ ears.”

Pets are expecting top notch gifts from their owners this Christmas
“I will also buy him custom-made diamante collars from America on the internet which cost around €248 (£200) each. And this year Marshall will have a specially made leather jacket and a funky waterproof jacket too.
“He will be there on Christmas morning unwrapping his presents with me and my family.

Marshall is set to have an extravagant Christmas if his owner has anything to do with it
“I know it sounds odd — but I’d rather spend money and time on my dog than on humans,” she said.
We love our dog but it is madness spending so much on a creature who doesn’t even know it’s a different day to any other.
