Beds shaking, furniture banging and walls trembling... what on earth was happening on the east coast of Ireland in the early hours of this morning?
Innuendos aside, it was in fact an earthquake that measured 4.3 on the Richter Scale that had people awake at about 4:15 this morning.
Website volcanodiscovery.com already has a report up on their front page. The earthquake has been classed as "moderate" on the Richter Scale and the tremors lasted about five seconds.
Both the Irish and Welsh have taken to the website in their droves to share their earthquake stories. Many thought it was a heavy truck outside, landslides or trains. One man texted Today FM this morning and said he thought the new neighbours upstairs just had a very exciting, eh-hem, night-time ritual.
Someone from Ballycogley, Wexford, Ireland wrote on volcanodiscovery.com:
"Woke me up 4.15 ish, radiators, windows and doors shook as if heavy vehicle was passing, duration 5/10 sec"
A Dubliner wrote:
"Felt the bed shaking side to side and walls vibrating in the apartment. Heard a small bang in the other room. We live on the 4th floor. Was long enough to notice and to make me think what was it. Was awake at the time. Not sure if it was strong enough to wake me if I was asleep. Never felt earthquakes before."
A Dundrum resident said:
"In bed asleep. The bed shaking quite vigorously woke me up. Woke my baby up too"
And someone in Delgaly, Wicklow thought their house was being burgled:
"Awoken from my sleep at about 4.30 am, May 29, 2013. Room felt like it was shaking. Not much noise, just slight rattle of windows. Husband, who is a heavy sleeper, was awoken from sleep also - he thought there was a intruder in the house!"
