Food App Calculates the Amount of Calories You’re Eating… Through a Photo

Looks like taking photos of your food and posting them on Instagram may actually serve to have a real purpose.

We’ve seen many apps over the years that aim to keep users aware of their calorie intake, but the latest is a whole new way at watching your waistline.

The new food app is being developed by SRI International – the same people who working on Apple’s voice-activated Siri.

Gigaom reports that the innovative new technology would allow users to snap a photo of their food and get an approximate calorie count – using the image to scan the elements of the dish and analyse it.

One of the biggest challenges for the company is to calculate hidden fats like butter Dror Oren, executive director at SRI Ventures tells Gigaom.
