Every week, for our ‘Food High Five’ series, we talk about certain foods that have great health benefits.

This week, we’re looking at potatoes.

Potatoes Believe it or not, the Irish favourite is full of vitamin C, potassium and resistant starch. Try and put a tasty twist on your poppies to make sure the healthy meal is one you enjoy. Try a parmesan and chive potato gratin or a new potato salad with fresh veggies.

Good for the heart

Potatoes do not contain any cholesterol or saturated fat therefore reducing the risk of heart disease and other coronary problems.

Fuller for longer

Due to the fact that they are rich in fibre, potatoes keep you feeling fuller for longer and can help you lose weight.

Aid digestion

Your digestive system will certainly benefit from potatoes as they are mainly made up of carbohydrates which give you energy and prevent constipation as well as bloating.

Great for your skin

Believe it or not but the minerals in potatoes, including vitamin C and zinc, are good for your skin (both when you eat them and use them in face masks).

Mental boost

Potatoes are excellent for keeping your brain functioning at a high level. They can also help to prevent fatigue and aid concentration.
