Ever felt like spending time in the air is stealing precious hours from your dating life?

Well, you'll be glad to know, there's a dating app for that.

Never again will you have to (shock, horror) actually approach somebody you find attractive because your Tinder access is prohibited in the skies.

Airdates is a free app that allows you to chat to other passengers without connecting to the internet.

It works like this: switch on Airplane mode, turn on WiFi and Bluetooth, scan your fellow passengers for their preferences, connect your devices and start a conversation.

If it goes well you could grab a drink in the departures lounge or browse the bookshop together.

An no, it's not an excuse to join the mile high club. Well, not according to Airdates CEO and founder Michael Richard. According to the French singleton, it's all about "making connections in the air" - so take from that what you will.

Happily, because the last thing anyone wants is to be stuck in an airport with a creep, your level of privacy is up to you. You can set your preferences depending on your mood or remain hidden, while still being able to chat.

Airdates appeared at Dublin Tech Summit this week and launches on May 15 but you can download it now at the App Store.

Hopefully it'll really take off...
