The series has become the subject of Karen’s first autonomous books. Speaking to Her.ie she says:
“I have always been inspired by that unspoiled and sometimes uncomfortable chemistry between young people. I have been looking for intense playful couples in Amsterdam but also during my travels and in my home country Denmark”.
The photos often capture a moment of spontaneity and Karen attributes this to spending short bursts of time with the subjects.
“Sometimes a shoot only takes 15-30 minutes, so in that way I can capture these raw and uncut moments”.
She says the experience of photographing couples is heart warming and a privilege.
“To be invited into people's intimate space is a very special thing for a photographer. I experienced that people actually really like to tell their stories to strangers and show their love.
Sometimes it’s also a bit awkward”.
