A Galway car dealership is in the middle of a storm of controversy this afternoon following the culmination of a high-profile competition to win a car.

Audi Galway posted a Facebook competition on the 24th of July offering fans the chance to win a 152 AUDI A3 Cabrio for the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Fans were asked to “like” and share the post as well as tagging “a friend you want to bring for a spin”.

The competition post, designed to boost the Audi Galway social media presence, stated that the winner would be announced on Friday, July 31st at 3pm.

This afternoon, a post crediting May Lydon as the winner appeared on the page, which boasts 40,000 fans.

However, eagle-eyed competition entrants soon spotted that there was no record of a Facebook user with that name. Shortly after alarm bells were raised, a new profile appeared boasting said name.

The page has since been inundated with angry posts from others who entered the competition.

The winner announcement has been deleted, along with a host of other posts, but the original competition is still visible on the page.
