“Get The Girls” – Gather Your Friends And Lend A Hand To The Irish Cancer Society

There are plenty of ways to raise money for charity, you can run a sponsored marathon or take part in a sponsored walk but we think one of the best ways to raise money for a worthwhile charity is to do it with your friends. And what better excuse to get the girls together for a weekend away in the lovely surroundings of West Cork.

The Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery, West Cork has been running their ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ weekend, in aid of action breast cancer, for the sixth consecutive year this October.

The theme is simple, getting women together for a weekend of fun and fundraising all in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

Helen Wycherley from the Celtic Ross explained why the hotel chose to raise funds for this particular campaign and what is it that brings ladies back every year to the hotel for this special event.

“The Irish Cancer Society is a very important charity, close to many people’s hearts.”

“The hotel didn’t have any charity it focused on, and three women came together, we’ve all known somebody affected by breast cancer, all cancers, and because we’re hosting it in the hotel we work with, we’re able to do a lot more with it, it is one of our feature events, and the whole hotel gets behind it.”

Helen continued that the weekend is for everyone, “If they’ve lost somebody to cancer or whether they just want to get together to support action breast cancer, or they are recovering from it themselves, it’s important for women to spend time together and just have fun.”

Helen highlighted the importance of the annual event, as it is the perfect reminder for women to check themselves, and awareness is raised throughout the hotel the entire weekend, with smartly placed signs and information leaflets.

“As well as fundraising for the cancer society it’s also about the awareness throughout the weekend.”

“The Irish Cancer Society do hangers that we put on the showers in all the ensuites, because that’s obviously the best place to check yourself, so at least if they do that much that can solve a lot of problems.”

This year’s Celtic Ross event will take place on the 11th – 13th October, and with repeat bookings every year, it really is the perfect weekend away for all the girls... go on and book, you know you want to!
